It’s Chelsea V Rennes (4/11/20) on Matchday 3 in the Champions League, and in my preview and prediction I think Frank Lampard’s Blues will pick up another 3 points.
So far Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side have got off to a pretty decent start in the Champions League.
Their opening week 0-0 draw at home to Sevilla was followed up by a comprehensive 4-0 win over Krasnodar on Matchday 2.
For Rennes, they have 1 point from 2 matches, and sit bottom of Group E by virtue of head-to-head.
So far they’ve managed a 1-1 draw at home to Krasnodar, and lost 1-0 away to Sevilla on Matchday 2.
Chelsea V Rennes Football Betting Tips
It’s hard to see anything other than a win here for Chelsea.
After defensive calamities at the start of the season, Lampard’s team have now had four clean sheets in a row.
A lot of this has to go down to new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who has played in all four matches.
Without doing anything spectacular, the former Rennes keeper seems to have made the Chelsea backline look a far more secure and confident outfit.
Still more to come up front from Chelsea
Turning attention to the other end of the pitch, and up front I still don’t think we’ve seen anything like the best of the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz yet.
Meaning there is still far more to come in that department.
Hakim Ziyech, another of the new signings, is a man in form though. The former Ajax winger has 2 goals from his last 2 matches, and can backed at 15/8 to score anytime in this one.
Rennes look a solid unit
For Rennes, they have five wins, three draws, and one loss, from their opening nine Ligue 1 matches.
Julien Stéphan’s side currently sit 3rd in their domestic league, just 3 points behind leaders and perennial winners, PSG.
Their sole Ligue 1 defeat so far this season came at home to Angers, in the form of a shock 2-1 defeat.
Chelsea V Rennes Odds
A quick look at the odds shows that Chelsea are heavy odds on favourites. The draw looks to be the best result for the French, and that can be backed at 4/1.
Looking at other football betting markets, and odds of 8/13 on over 2.5 goals looks a touch short to me. Chelsea have tightened up defensively, and their opponents are also a reasonably compact side who don’t concede many – making that bet look poor value.
Chelsea V Rennes Prediction 4/11/20
I’m not expecting a goals fest in this one, so I think a Same Game Multi of Chelsea to win, and there to be under 3.5 goals looks a decent shout.
Under 3.5 goals is 1/2, and combined with a Chelsea win, the bet pays just over Even money at 2.01, and looks good value to me.
