What Is A Trixie?

All major bookmakers will offer you a Trixie Bet, if they don't, then don't bet with them. Here we explain in more detail what a Trixie bet is.

What Is A Trixie Bet?

A Trixie is four bets made up from three selections. The four bets are three doubles and one treble.

Obviously, if all three selections win, the whole bet wins. If two selections win, you will get a return of some sort as one of your doubles has won. If one or zero teams win, the bet is a loser.

You can take a look at the sort of money you could win on a Trixie Bet using our Betting Calculator.

A Trixie bet is four doubles and one treble. If you pick Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to all win, and place them in a Trixie, the bet will be broken down like this.

Trixie Bet Examples

1 - Double - Manchester United and Bayern Munich to both win
2 - Double - Manchester United and Barcelona to both win
3 - Double - Bayern Munich and Barcelona to both win

4 - Treble - Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to all win

If all three teams win, you will win on all three doubles, and one treble. If only Manchester United and Barcelona win, you will only win on one double (Bet 2). Your other two doubles and treble will be losing bets.

As a Trixie is made up of four bets, one selection not winning means 3 of your bets are losers.

I quite like doing Trixie Bets on football because you can still make money from it, with just two of your selections winning.

If your 3 selections are all around the Even money mark, you only need two of your selections to win to get your money back. If you go slightly over Evens (say 11/10 or 6/5, for example), you will be in profit from just 2 selections winning.

Trixie and Patents are similar

Trixies and patents are similar, both have three selections. Where a Trixie Bet differs from a Patent Bet, is the Trixie doesn't include singles, whereas a Patent does. This makes a Patent Bet, 7 bets, as opposed to the 4 bets in a Trixie Bet.

How many bets are in a Trixie?

In total, there are four seperate bets in a trixie. The bet breaks down like this:

Trixie Bet - 4 Bets

1 - Double - Manchester United and Bayern Munich to both win
2 - Double - Manchester United and Barcelona to both win
3 - Double - Bayern Munich and Barcelona to both win

4 - Treble - Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to all win

If two of your selections win, you will get something back in your bet. This is because one of your doubles will have won. If the winning double bet pays more than your bet cost, you are in profit.

Patent Bet - 7 Bets

1 - Single - Manchester United to win
2 - Single - Bayern Munich to win
3 - Single - Barcelona to win

4 - Double - Manchester United and Bayern Munich to both win
5 - Double - Manchester United and Barcelona to both win
6 - Double - Bayern Munich and Barcelona to both win

7 - Treble - Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to all win

Our What Is A Patent Bet page that explains the bet in more detail.

When you place your bet you will have to enter your stake. As a trixie is four bets, you will need to times your stake by four. So if you enter £1.00 for a Trixie, that will cost you £4.00 (£1 x 4 bets). If you enter £1.00 for a Patent, it will cost you £7.00.

So be aware when placing bets. For example, if you want the total cost of your Trixie Bet to be £1.00, you will have to enter 25p per a bet (25p x 4 bets).

Trixie Bet FAQ

What Is A Trixie Bet?

A Trixie Bet is a bet made up of 3 selections, and 4 bets. So you pick 3 football teams, and in a Trixie you would have 4 separate bets. One 3-fold bet, and three doubles.

As it's 4 separate bets, you would get something back if 2 of your 3 selections won, as one of your doubles would have been successful.
