The opening semi-final of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 sees England Women take on Italy Women in Geneva on Tuesday night.
England Women are the defending Euro champions, but they have looked inconsistent at times throughout the competition.
Sarina Wiegman’s team lost their opening match of the competition 2-1 against France. They were effectively playing knockout football from then on, and they eventually qualified from Group D as runners up following wins over the Netherlands (4-0) and Wales (6-1).
The Lionesses were equally inconsistent in their quarter-final match with Sweden. The Swedes were 2-0 up at half time and probably should have been out of sight. England were lacklustre and lacked intensity. They looked like they were exiting the competition with a whimper.
An improved second half performance was looking doomed to failure until late substitute Chloe Kelly got the defending champions back in the match by providing an assist for Lucy Bronze within a minute of entering the pitch.
The 79th minute goal changed the momentum, and England drew level two minutes later through Michelle Agyemang. England probably edged the remainder of the match and extra-time, but how they came out winners in the penalty shoot out defies logic.
Italy Women came through a tricky Group B in second place with just four points. The Azzurre defeated Belgium 1-0 in their opening match, and followed that up with a 1-1 draw against Portugal in their second outing.
Andrea Soncin’s team lost 3-1 to Spain in their final group match. They were way off the pace against the tournament favourites in a match that saw the Azzurre have just 25% of the ball.
Cristiana Girelli was the hero in Italy’s 2-1 win over Norway in the quarter-final. The Juventus striker’s clinical finishing was the difference between the two sides in an entertaining match.

England haven't been great at Euro 2025, but they have somehow found a way to make it to the last four. The bookmakers are siding with England, which is probably fair enough, as the Lionesses have the stronger team on paper.

Reasoning:
Italy have scored in every match of the tournament so far, including against strong defensive sides like Germany. England are favourites but have conceded in two of their last three games and looked very sloppy at the back in their quarter-final against Sweden.
2. Over/Under 2.5 Goals – Over (1.75)
Reasoning:
Both teams play progressive football. England average 2.4 goals per game in the tournament, and Italy have looked sharp in attack but vulnerable at the back. A 2-1 or 3-1 scoreline feels likely.
3. Anytime Goalscorer – Alessia Russo (2.50)
Reasoning:
Russo has scored just once in the compettion. She did have an off day against Sweden, but we can see her coming good on the big occasion.
