Madrid still favourites to qualify from Group B after snatching late draw

Despite only having 1 point from their opening two matches, Real Madrid are still odds on favourites to qualify from Group B in the Champions League.

Zidane's team are 4/6 with William Hill to qualify from their group, and are 13/8 to win it.

Madrid currently sit bottom of Group B, with just 1 point. But thanks to results going in their favour, they are only 3 points behind leaders Shakhtar Donetsk, and 1 point behind both Borussia Monchengladbach (2nd), and Inter Milan (3rd).

Inter Milan's failure to convert their many chances in Ukraine earlier really has helped Madrid.

Next up for Los Blancos is a home tie against Inter Milan next Tuesday (3/11/20), on MatchDay 3. On the same night, league leader's Shakhtar host Monchengladbach.

A home win for Zidane's team will put them right back in the mix. A defeat really could land them in hot water though.

Madrid really did get out of jail earlier. With just 3 minutes left on the clock, Karim Benzema pulled one back.

Then deep into injury time Casemiro fired in Sergio Ramos' header back across goal to seal an unlikely looking draw.

It may have been a great fight back from Zidane's team, but it the facts remain that Madrid have just 1 point from 6.

Despite sitting in second place in La Liga, their domestic form hasn't been anything special either. The 3-1 win over Barcelona last Saturday came on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Cadiz the week before.

There are Champions League matches coming thick and fast up until Christmas, so plenty of squad rotation will be required.

Madrid have an ageing and thin squad, so it remains to be seen how they will cope playing top level football twice a week for the remainder of the year.
