After another impressive display on Saturday against Manchester City, and in front of England manager Roy Hodgson, Ross Barkley is again being tipped up as possible candidate to make England’s world cup squad for Brazil.
Barkley is currently a best price of 4/9 with William Hill to be in Brazil, which although sounding quite short, actually isn’t – when you compare it to the odds on world cup certainties such as Joe Hart and Wayne Rooney, who are 1/50.
It is being reported in the Telegraph Sport section that it is a straight scrap between Barkley and Manchester United’s Michael Carrick for a place in the 23.
If this is the case, the fact that they are completely different players would mean the balance of Hodgson’s squad would be in question, which could have baring on Hodgson’s final decision.
Hill’s make Michael Carrick a 1/3 shot, so it is clear that they don’t buy the story in the Telegraph, the current best price on Carrick making the 23 is 4/6 BetVictor.
I personally think it is more likely to be a straight decision between Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick.
