There seems to be a bit of a gamble developing on Liverpool winning this year’s Premier League title.
Immediately after Brendan Rodgers’ side completed their 3-2 victory over Fulham, Liverpool seen their odds cut from 14/1 to 9/1. The 9/1 only lasted for a couple of hours on Wednesday night, and by Thursday morning the odds had come in to a general 17/2.
At the moment, Winner.com (£25.00 Free Bet For New Customers) are the only bookmaker currently offering 17/2 on Liverpool, as that price has almost disappeared since Thursday morning. There is a couple of bookies going as short as 7/1 on Liverpool, but in general you can get 8/1 with most firms.
If any further proof of Liverpool’s title credentials is required, then look no further than a Jose Mourinho interview or press conference.
For weeks now he has been attempting to undermine Arsenal and particularly Manchester City (while under playing his own teams credentials), and now he has turned his attentions to Liverpool.
His assertion that “The league is amazing but Liverpool have a big advantage because of the fact they don’t play in the Champions League,” shows that he must now see Liverpool as a serious threat. And he’s right.
All of the other three Premier League title contenders have big Champions League fixtures coming up over the next few weeks, while Liverpool can just plan meticulously for their upcoming Premier League fixtures.
Liverpool’s only distraction is the FA Cup, at the moment they are a best price of 15/2 with Stan James to win it (5th favourites).
They visit Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the fifth round. Will Brendan Rodgers be that gutted if he loses there? I doubt it.
There doesn’t really seem any reason why Liverpool can’t go all out to win the FA Cup though, and I hope they do. If they do progress and go all the way to the final, it’s only another 4 matches (assuming they have no replays), so it shouldn’t really effect them that badly.
There’s a fair chance that Arsenal may rotate their squad on Sunday (they are at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday), so that could also help Liverpool….assuming Rodgers doesn’t do the same.
If you do fancy Liverpool to continue their good form against Arsenal, they are a best price of 9/5 with Coral (£50.00 Free Bet) to win in 90 minutes on Sunday.
