Football Betting

When you are football betting it is important to get a number of things right.

To start with you need to make sure you are using one of the best football betting sites.

A decent football betting site will have competitive odds, a decent sign up offer, and good offers for existing customers. These offers should be things like money back specials when your bet loses. They could be free games also.

The football betting site also needs to suit your gambling needs. There is no point going with bookmaker that doesn’t offer some of the markets you like betting on.

There are also decent and helpful football betting websites out there, such as this one. Sites that give you statistics that help you select your bets. Sites that give you up to the minute team news, etc.

5pm Brazil V England played in Qatar

If you wish to indulge in some football trading, you won’t be surprised to find that Brazil are the favourites at a best price of 11/10 with Totesport (a £10 Totesport Free Bet is available to new customers). Can’t see that price lasting long as England have a reserve side out, the rest of the main bookmakers have Brazil at Evens which considering England’s team is still a good price. The draw is 12/5 with Sky Bet, while England are 14/5 with Bet365.

Personally I don’t like backing friendly matches but Brazil do look a good price.

8pm Republic of Ireland V France

This is the big game of the weekend for me, Trapattoni has named 10 of his team and looks like the selection between Aiden McGeady and Liam Lawrence for the final place will confirm whether Ireland go for a first leg lead or whether he will be happy taking a 0-0 to Paris on Wednesday night.

With Trapattoni being an Italian it is hard to imagine him doing anything other than giving the final place to Liam Lawrence and playing for a 0-0 draw

My only concern there is Ireland’s inability to keep a clean sheet, in the recent home fixture against Italy they played well but seemed to lack that bit of know-how and managed to concede twice, once late on with the game won.

It’s that lack of experience and (maybe) quality at the back which makes me doubt the Irish can hold out for a clean sheet. On the flip side they probably should have won both the home and away group fixtures against Italy, having played well enough to do so. For these reasons they shouldn’t be intimidated by the French.

Another boost for the Irish should be that all the reports coming out of France suggest that they don’t fancy this fixture much and that confidence isn’t currently very high in the camp.

The French teams big names seem to be an unsettled bunch under the less than popular Raymond Domenech, I can remember during the World Cup in 2006 there seemed to be a massive lack of respect for Domenech from the senior players and Thierry Henry has been critical of the situation with the manager over the last few weeks.

If Ireland as expected go for the clean sheet and try and keep it tight the Under 2.5 goals is 8/15 with Blue Square and Paddy Power, while 0-0 is 13/2 with Sky Bet

In 90 minutes betting Ireland are 12/5 with Bet365 and most other online bookmakers. The Draw is 11/5 with Boylesports and France are 6/4 with Betfred.

To qualify for the World Cup France are favourites at 1/3 with Ladbrokes. Ireland are 13/5 with William Hill (a £25 William Hill Free Bet is available to new customers).

There are also hundreds of pounds worth of free bets available if you wish to use them for matched betting.

Congratulations New Zealand

All of us here at Football Gambler would like to say congratulations to New Zealand, as they have added their name to the growing list of teams to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.

The Kiwis achieved the feat with a 1-0 aggregate win over Bahrain in front of 35,194 fans in Wellington. The largest crowd ever to attend a football match in New Zealand.

New Zealand qualify for 2010 World Cup after beating Bahrain

They played Bahrain over two legs in a Asia/Oceania play off after winning the Oceania zone, a task made somewhat easier by Australia playing in the Asia zone after the Aussies finally got FIFA to make changes to the qualification process to make it easier for them. Thank God for FIFA’s policy of corruption!

It is the first time the Kiwi’s have made the finals since the 1982 tournament in Spain. They almost came unstuck though as with the score at 1-0 in the 50th minute Sayed Mohamed Adnan missed a penalty which would have given Bahrain a priceless away goal. In the end Rory Fallon’s headed goal in the 45th minute was enough to send New Zealand through sparking mass celebrations.

Well done to the Kiwi’s.

There are free bets available from online bookmakers if you wish to back New Zealand at the World Cup, these free bets can also be used for matched betting purposes.

Arsenal V Tottenham – Match Betting

Arsenal take on North London rivals Tottenham today at Emirates Stadium in the first Derby of the 2009-2010 season, and the betting suggests the Gunners will win. The match is live on Sky Sports 1, with kick off at 12.45pm.

Can this fixture live up to last season’s classic?

The corresponding fixture ended 4-4 last season and came a matter of days after Redknapp took the job. This match represents the perfect opportunity to see just how far Spurs have come under Redknapp’s leadership. In all honesty Arsenal were by far the better side last year, and should have beat Spurs convincingly.

Arsenal V Tottenham 2009
Arsenal and Tottenham drew 4-4 prior to their 2009 fixture, the betting suggests a repeat is unlikely.

In the above mentioned game Spurs were helped by an early wonder goal (although I would call it a goalkeeping error) by David Bentley who has hardly been seen since. They then gamely hung in there, and at the end took advantage of a calamitous final 10 minutes to claim an unlikely draw.

This year should be different, the squad is now mainly a Harry Redknapp one and is there to be judged on its performance. Robbie Keane certainly rates it as he has already stated that the Spurs bench is stronger than the Arsenal bench. A remark I would imagine has been taken out of context and remixed by journalists. Never the less, not a wise one and it would already have done a large amount of Wenger’s team talk for him.

It could be said though that the Spurs squad isn’t as strong as the Arsenal one is. Luka Modric is still out with a long term injury and Harry Redknapp hasn’t been able to replace him. In Arsenal’s case if their main ball player – Cesc Fabregas – was out they have youngsters like Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere waiting in the wings to step in.

No Luka Modric is a huge blow for Spurs

The loss of Modric has and will continue to be felt by Tottenham. Last week’s match with Stoke is a perfect example were they dominated proceedings but couldn’t find that bit of craft or guile to open Stoke, and surely the floodgates up.

In today’s game David Bentley looks set to come back into replace the injured Aaron Lennon after Harry Redknapp stated he has impressed in training lately and looks to have got his head down. Jermain Defoe is still suspended so Peter Crouch will continue up front in his absence.

For Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone is set to be replaced by Manuel Almunia. The Spaniard has now fully recovered from a chest infection. Theo Walcott, Denilson and Tomas Rosicky are still out injured but Samir Nasri is available again. He will more than likely only figure on the bench though.

Arsenal V Tottenham Betting 2009

Onto the football betting and Arsenal are a best price of 4/7 with Totesport, Stan James and Ladbrokes.

Tottenham are 11/2 with Bet365, and the draw is 3/1 with Paddy Power.

Liverpool V Manchester United – Match Betting

The first of Sky Sports two Sunday Live Premier League games sees Liverpool take on Man Utd at Anfield in the 2009/10 Premier League season.

Rafa Under Pressure Already

Rafa Benitez is under pressure after 4 successive defeats, the latest of which came in the Champions League at home to Lyon (2-1) on Wednesday.

To make matters worse for Benitez, both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are doubts for the game. The fact that Liverpool have looked lost without Gerrard and Torres this season shows a lack of strength in depth of the Liverpool squad, with Babbel, Voronin and Ngog in particular not able to fill the void left.

Steven Gerrard looked particularly annoyed when he went off injured against Lyon and his body language towards Benitez when shaking his hand spoke for itself as he barely looked at his manager suggesting his displeasure with Rafa. Maybe Gerrard was asked to risk his injury against his wishes?

Manchester United who haven’t been in the greatest form themselves recently have a doubt over Wayne Rooney’s fitness, get the feeling that he will play though and that this is just another Ferguson so-called mind game.

Owen Is Set For A Hot Reception

This game has that stroke of irony about it with Michael Owen coming back to Anfield and he is in the position to deliver a knockout blow to Benitez.

We may never know the reasons why Owen left. It could be that he was never going to stay and Liverpool had no option to sell him. Or maybe Benitez didn’t rate him that highly and made it clear he could leave.

The fact remains that Benitez has consistently been reluctant to praise or show any interest in Owen when questioned about would he like to re-sign him on the occasions he has been available in the past.

This indicated that Rafa dosen’t rate him. Therefore giving some substance to the theory that Rafa didn’t try that hard to keep him.

You can already see it coming can’t you. People think Owen is finished, but when called upon in the big games Owen has a habit of delivering.

He already did it against Man City earlier this season. With online bookmakers (free bets are available to use for Matched Betting) Owen is a best price of 13/5 with Paddy Power to score during 90 minutes and heap more pressure on his former boss.

Be interesting to see what kind of reception Owen gets. On one hand he has been a good servant to the Reds, but on the other he could be seen as someone who ran down his contract to leave. The one thing that can’t be denied is he’s now playing for Liverpool’s arch enemies.

Liverpool V Man Utd 2009/10 Betting

Liverpool can be backed at 9/4 with Sky Bet, Manchester United are a best price of 6/4 with Bet365 (£200 Bet365 Free Bet available to new customers) and not surprisingly big Man Utd fans, Betfred.
