Revenge is in the air in the FA Cup, as last year’s beaten finalists, Manchester City, have been handed the chance to put the record straight against last year’s victors, Wigan.
I don’t foresee it so much as a chance to extract some revenge, more a chance to have Wigan hanged, drawn and quartered.
The difference between the two teams now is far wider than it was in last year’s showcase final (given Wigan’s subsequent relegation), and taking into consideration the way City have despatched teams from the lower leagues this season, it is hard to see anything other than a good hiding for Wigan.
All this means that the Manchester City quadruple is still on, it is currently a best price of 35/1 with Ladbrokes.
Along with Manchester City’s supposed ‘easier’ draw, their main rivals – Arsenal and Everton, who will play at the Emirates – have been drawn together, which has resulted in Manchester City being made odds on favourites to win the FA Cup.
City are currently a best price of 10/11 with a whole host of online bookmakers, including Bet365, who are offering a free bet of £50.00 to all customers on the Manchester City V Barcelona, Champions League match later this week.
If Hull make it past Brighton tonight, they will be at home to Sunderland in their quarter-final, meaning another Premier League team will fall. And the other quarter-final will be made up of football league teams (Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd, or Charlton), guaranteeing someone a lower league team in the semi-final draw.
