Both the first legs of the Carabao Cup are now completed, and it will come as no surprise to anyone that Man City are still heavy odds on favourites to lift the trophy, currently at 8/15 with Paddy Power.
Chelsea are second in the betting at 10/3, Arsenal are 9/2, and Bristol City are the massive outsiders at 45/1.
Even though Bristol City lost their 1st leg fixture away to Man City, it was still arguably the most impressive showing from all 4 sides in the semi-finals. They were expected to get a good hiding against free scoring City at the Etihad, but instead they gave Pep’s City one of their hardest fixtures of the season, and only went down to an injury time winner from Sergio Aguero, losing 2-1.
City were 1/10 with Paddy Power pre kick off, and it looked like that short price was going to be smashed after Bristol took the lead from the spot in the first half. They were originally pegged back by the 3/10 favourite in Player of the Year Betting, Kevin de Bruyne, and eventually their gallant effort was finished off by the Argentine’s late winner, which was very cruel on the League 1 side.
Onto Wednesday night’s fixture, and Arsenal managed to do a decent containing job on Chelsea at the Bridge. It was a tight match, with Chelsea having the better of the chances, and there was a couple of close calls for penalties at both ends.
The two sides will go to the Emirates for the 2nd leg in 2 weeks time, with all still to play for.
