We can't vouch for all of these bookmakers, all we know is they are classed as bookmakers.

A lot of these online bookmakers have free bets that can be used for matched betting, and they can also be used for betting on football.

When deciding on which online bookmakers account to open, you need to consider a number of things.

  • Decent Odds
  • Do They Offer The Relevant Markets
  • Are They Reliable And Trustworthy
  • Contact And Support
  • Are They Financially Secure
  • Fast Payouts

A lot of the topics on the above list might overlap a bit, but here we look at them in more detail.

Decent Odds

A bookmaker needs to offer decent odds on a lot of different markets. Using an odds comparison site is very helpful if you are looking for the best odds.

So for example, if you want to bet on Manchester United to beat Liverpool, you can go on an odds comparison site such as Oddschecker, and there you will find the bookmaker offering you the best odds.

Do bear in mind with comparison sites, that - in most cases - they will only show you the odds from bookmakers that they are affiliated with. .

So in other words, they get a percentage of what you (may) lose to that bookmaker. This also means they are not showing you the whole of market.

For the record, of the extensive list of bookmakers above, I have an affiliate account only with the ones showing an * next to them. The rest, I have no affiliation with at all.

Does My Bookmaker Offer Odds On The Relevant Markets?

Have a think about which sports, and which particular markets you bet on. For instance, if you like betting on the Belarusian Premier League, then find a bookmaker that offers plenty of markets in that league.

It may be easier said than done, but that bit of extra time and research could see you winning more, as you can actually bet on a topic you specialise in.

Are They Reliable And Trustworthy

Is my bookmaker reliable and trustworthy? That is a question you should be asking yourself.

How much do you know about them? Have they been around for a while? What are their online reviews like, etc?

Obviously it's hard to know the ins and outs of any bookmaker, but there are plenty who have been around for a while, who are trusted sources.

Just beware some of the more obscure bookmakers, and don't leave large amounts of money in their accounts.

For example, without contradicting my last answer, but if you do find an obscure bookmaker who gives you good odds on the aforementioned Belarusian Premier League, just be wary of them, and as I've already eluded too - don't leave large amounts of cash in your account.

Contact And Support

What sort of customer services do you get from your bookmaker is another key consideration. Most of the mainstream UK bookmakers have online social media support from 8am in the morning, until 11pm at night, allowing you to get instant help.

Others aren't so good. I've written a review on a bookmaker (a couple of years back) where that bookie only had e-mail support, that promised to reply within 24 hours. Not all are that bad, but they do vary, and it is something to look out for.

Is Your Bookmaker Financially Secure

Another thing to take into consideration is if your bookmaker is financially secure or not. A lot of bookmakers ring fence customers money, but I'm no expert in insolvency, so I couldn't say that this means you would get your money back if that bookmaker went bust.

If you see in the media that a bookmaker is in a bit of financial trouble, that should be a red alert to avoid that bookmaker.

I remember seeing in the news that travel agent Thomas Cook was in financial trouble, so I decided not to risk booking a holiday with them. And it's the same with bookmakers.

Fast Payouts

Getting money back out of your bookmaker is another bone of contention with punters. They are quick enough to take our cash, so they should give us it back just as quickly. Right?

I believe this to be the case, so I wouldn't use any bookmaker that expected me to jump through hoops to get me cash back. Again, check review sites to see who is good, and who is bad.

All of the above bookmakers with asterisks * next to them are good in this department. We wouldn't promote any bookmaker on Football Gambler that is bad in this department, or has a dodgy track record in anyway. Even if they offered to pay us a fortune.
