Matchweek 7 Premier League Match Predictions and Preview

Home » Matchweek 7 Premier League Match Predictions and Preview

Unfortunately Matchweek 7 in the Premier League is the final round of fixtures ahead of the latest international break.

Last week didn't go too well with just 3 correct predictions out of 10, so let's hope for more luck this weekend.

There is no reason for any managers to be rotating squads, and teams will be looking to go out on a high. So let's hope form prevails this week, after a few shock results over the last two weekends.

Man Utd vs Everton Match Prediction

It's been another strange week in the Old Trafford managerial career of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It all started in a mess with the 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa at this time last week.

Things then took another turn for the worse when United fell behind in the Champions League to Villarreal on Wednesday. The tide really would have turned against Ole had United lost this, especially with his already suspect European record.

Up steps that man Ronaldo to save the day for Ole with a 95th minute winner. That’s basically what he’s been brought in to do.

As for Everton, they sit 5th in the table behind United, but on the same points. They haven’t really been challenged in the Premier League this season, until today.

I expect United to put the record straight today and be too strong for Rafa’s Everton.  I also expect to see any United penalty taken by Ronaldo today after last Saturday’s farcical scenes.

  • Verdict - Man Utd Win

Burnley vs Norwich Match Prediction

Neither of these sides have won yet this season, so something may give today.

Burnley showed signs of revival last weekend and were probably unlucky not to leave the KP Stadium with all 3 points.

As for Norwich, things just seem to be going from bad to worse, and they probably can’t wait for the international break.

The 2-0 defeat to Everton last weekend was their sixth straight defeat in the Premier League.

I suspect they would gladly take a point today to stop the run of defeats. But I’m not predicting one for them.

  • Verdict - Burnley Win

Chelsea vs Southampton Match Prediction

Thomas Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel’s side have come back to earth with a bump this weekend.

This time last week they were going to push Man City all the way, and in Lukaku, they had the in form striker in English football.

This week they come off the back of two chastening defeats to City and Juventus, and by the end of Wednesday night’s ordeal in Italy, Lukaku looked more like the player Man Utd sold.

Southampton are a funny team. They followed up their excellent 0-0 draw away to Man City with a 1-0 defeat at home to Wolves. They have zero wins this season, and sit in 16th place on 4 points.

Things aren’t that bad though in my view. This is just a bump in the road, and Chelsea will be fine in the long run.

I can only really predict a win for Chelsea here. And who knows with the fixture list the way it is, the Blues could be top of the table going into the international break.

  • Verdict - Chelsea Win

Leeds vs Watford Match Prediction

On to the harder to predict teams now, and Leeds and Watford definitely fit that description.

Leeds still have no wins this season, while Watford have two. I really don’t know which way this match will go, but I do think it will have over 2.5 goals in it, and at 4/6 that is my extra free betting tip this weekend

In tight matches in the Premier League it sometimes makes sense to go with the home team, and that is what I’m going to do here.

  • Verdict - Leeds Win

Wolves vs Newcastle Match Prediction

Wow, another one that’s very hard to call. Two very unpredictable sides here. Wolves got a great win away at Southampton last weekend, one of my correct calls, while Newcastle got a point away to Watford, one of my incorrect calls.

I did think Newcastle would win last weekend, but I can’t say that this weekend. I am going to give Steve Bruce’s side 1 point though.

  • Verdict - Draw

Brighton vs Arsenal Match Prediction

Final fixture of Saturday’s matches, and all of a sudden Arsenal are in form. Where did that come from?

The problem for the Gunners is that Brighton are also riding high. Graham Potter’s side are 6th in the table on 13 points. While Arsenal are now up to 10th (on 9 points) after three wins in a row.

I’m tempted by the draw for this one, but I do suspect that all of a sudden Arsenal are on a roll - just as an international break approaches!

Brighton also aren’t the sort of team who will rough the Gunners up, so I’m going to go for a fourth straight win for Arsenal today.

  • Verdict - Arsenal Win

West Ham vs Brentford Match Prediction

Next up it’s a London derby between West Ham and Brentford.

Both of these teams have enjoyed decent starts to the season and have only lost one match each.

Last weekend West Ham impressively came from behind to beat Leeds 2-1, while Brentford held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium, coming from behind twice.

I expect Brentford to run the Hammers close in this fixture, but having seen them play in the Europa League on Thursday, I think West Ham will just edge this one.

  • Verdict - West Ham Win

Spurs vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

After a bright start to the season, Spurs now look like a team adapting to life under their new coach.

Aston Villa also look like a team in transition. The new signings are trying to settle in, and the new strike partnership is trying to forge an understanding.

Villa won at Old Trafford last weekend, and it’s hard to go back-to-back in the Premier League against these teams.

Harry Kane got a hat-trick against far inferior opposition on Thursday, but I expect that with the England man having that extra spring in his step, he may even find the net this weekend and lead his Spurs team to victory.

  • Verdict - Spurs Win

Crystal Palace vs Leicester Match Prediction

Two sides in the bottom half of the table, and both struggling to find their way this season.

Palace are adapting to a new manager and style, and have actually done better than I thought they would at this stage.

As for Leicester, something doesn’t seem to have clicked yet this season. Big names are misfiring, but Jamie Vardy is scoring goals and that means they are always dangerous.

I think Leicester will come good at some point, and I’m predicting it could be in this match.

  • Verdict - Leicester Win

Liverpool vs Man City Match Prediction

The heavyweight clash of the weekend, and for Pep’s Manchester City side, the third massive match in nine days.

Liverpool will feel that last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Brentford was 2 points dropped. They led twice, and on both occasions, failed to hold on for the win.

They did bounce back well in Europe midweek with a 5-1 win away to Porto in the Champions League.

While for Pep, after seeing his City side beat Chelsea last Saturday, they then lost 2-0 away to PSG in the Champions League.

These are obviously three very hard fixtures, but it’s the sort of week that City’s squad is built for.

I really can’t call this one, it’s one of those matches that could go either way. I’m tempted to go with another City win, but I think I’m going to sit on the fence and call this match a draw.

  • Verdict - Draw
