West Ham favourites to sign out of favour Jesse Lingard

It's being reported on various media outlets today that West Ham have made initial enquiries to Jesse Lingard's representatives about signing the midfielder on a free transfer when his contract ends this summer.

West Ham manager David Moyes is well known to be a big fan. The former Manchester United manager had Lingard on loan at West Ham in the second half of the 2020/21 season to great effect.

During his time at the London Stadium, Lingard scored nine goals with five assists. The 16 matches he played were instrumental in getting West Ham into this season's Europa League.

Such was the success of Lingard's loan spell, Moyes tried to repeat the deal in January of this year. Unfortunately for Moyes and West Ham, their attempts to sign Lingard were knocked back by the Red Devils.

Now with no new contract offer on the table, and Lingard looking frustrated at Old Trafford, it looks certain the midfielder will be moving on.

The Hammers are the favourites in the betting to sign Lingard on a permanent deal. Betfair have priced them up as 5/4 favourites.

Also rumoured to be interested are Newcastle United. Eddie Howe’s team are second favourites to sign Lingard at 9/4.

If Newcastle are serious about Lingard, they are likely to put together a better financial package than the Hammers. Which is something to bear in mind if betting on the market.

Also in the running is Sevilla 13/2, and newly crowned Serie A champions, AC Milan who are 17/2.

The market stresses that Lingard must have signed before 3rd September 2022 for a bet settlement. The Premier League transfer window closes at 11pm on 1st September 2022.
