Liverpool continued to keep the pressure on Manchester City by beating Newcastle United 1-0 at St James Park in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.
The win for Klopp's team was nervy, and they may consider themselves a touch lucky to come away from Newcastle with all 3 points.
Yes, Liverpool could have gone 2-0 up through Sadio Mane at the end 1st half. But equally as guilty was Newcastle’s Chris Wood, who also missed a great chance late in the 2nd half.
Red's manager Jurgen Klopp did gamble with his team selection, choosing to leave Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Thiago Alcantara on the bench with Tuesday's Champions League semi-final 2nd leg against Villarrreal in mind. The latter two did make appearances off the bench.
Ultimatetly, the gamble did pay off. as Liverpool won 1-0 courtesy of a Naby Keita goal in the 19th minute.
The win wasn't straight forward for the Reds though. Newcastle did turn it into a nervy affair and at no point could Liverpool fans relax until the final whistle was blown.
Liverpool are top of the Premier League, for now. It's now over to Manchester City who take on Leeds United in today's late fixture.
