Liverpool beat RB Leipzig 2-0, and now look certain to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Dominant Liverpool make light work of RB Leipzig in Champions League
Liverpool bounced back from the disappointment of Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Leicester, by beating RB Leipzig 2-0 in the 1st leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie.
In the end, it was a dominant display from the Reds, who are now heavy odds on favourites to progress into the next round.
The 2-0 win was sealed with goals from Mohamad Salah and Sadio Mane.
In truth, Liverpool were helped out greatly by the Germans for both their goals. And it was the sort of helping hand that was much needed for Klopp's low on confidence team.
Salah opened the scoring with a neat finish from a sloppy defensive pass on 53 minutes. For the second, Mane latched onto an up field punt that got Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele in a right old tangle, and neatly finished, giving keeper Peter Gulacsi .
In a lot of ways, the match reminded me of the Leicester performance. Liverpool looked the better side, but all along, I felt there was a vulnerability about them.
How will they react if Leipzig score first? And even after Liverpool went 1 up, I'm sure most observers were wondering how the Reds would react if the German's equalised.
Thankfully for Klopp and his team, they didn't have to wait too long for a second goal, and relative safety.
When Sadio Mane fired in Liverpool's second in the 58th minute, the relief must have been palpable. At that point, I felt the worst that would happen was the Germans might fight back for a draw.
Liverpool still in the mix to win the Champions League
Despite being way of the title race in England. Liverpool are still one of the Champions League favourites.
They are now 6/1, fourth favourites. Only Man City, Bayern Munich, and PSG are ahead of them in the betting.
