Arsenal sign Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid

Martin Odegaard has joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid for the rest of the current football season.

Odegaard is an attacking midfielder, who earlier in his career was regarded as one of the best young prospects in Europe.

During his time in Spain, Odegaard has struggled to make an impact at Real. Especially since the return of Zinedine Zidane.

This season he has featured in just 9 matches for Real Madrid, starting just 3 of those.

Interestingly, Madrid favoured a loan spell at Arsenal for Odegaard, as opposed to Real Sociedad (where he spent last season), and Ajax.

The signing is a major boost for Arsenal, especially given Ajax's track record with developing young footballers.

Speaking about the signing, Gunners' boss Mikel Arteta said......

“It’s great that we’ve secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season. Martin is of course a player that we all know very well and although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while. Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we’re all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May.”

Odegaard will wear the Number 11 shirt at Arsenal.

He will be available to play in the Gunner's next match, against Manchester United on Saturday (5.30pm).
