Man City look to have got their Mojo back

After a sticky start to the season, it appears Man City have finally got their mojo back.

In the past week they've won away at Chelsea in the Premier League, and at Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Then on Sunday, they comfortably progressed to the 4th round of the FA Cup.

Man City are now Unbeaten in 13 matches

Sunday's 3-0 FA Cup win over Birmingham City was Man City's 13th match without defeat in all competitions.

The last time City lost, was the 2-0 defeat away to Spurs in the Premier League. That was back on 21st November, 2020.

Yes, there has probably been one or two too many Premier League draws in that run. But by and large, it's an impressive feat.

And what makes the run all the more impressive, is the fact that City have done this without a recognised striker, as both Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus have been missing for the majority of the season.

It doesn't matter how good your squad is, you are going to miss players of that quality.

So where is City's Season now at?

Well to start with, they are in the final of the Carabao Cup. Bidding to win it for a recording equalling fourth year in succession.

They are also into the last 16 of the Champions League, the 4th round of the FA Cup, and are now within striking distance of the top of the Premier League.

City have been helped in the Premier League by the lack of a run away leader, of that there can be no doubt.

But there was always a strong possibility that the standards weren't going to be as high in the English top flight this season, than in the previous three campaigns.

A quick look at the odds on the majority of bookmakers on FindBettingSites betting site comparison list shows that City are once again odds on favourites to win the Premier League.

They started the season at around 10/11, but after a few early set backs, went second in the betting, behind Liverpool.

The slump in form of Jurgen Klopp's Reds (in the main on the road), along with a run of three straight wins for City, has seen Pep's men regain favouritism for the title.

City are now back to 10/11, with Liverpool second favourites at 21/10.

What Can Go Wrong For City ?

Pep Guardiola has indicated that City won't be raiding the transfer market for a big name striker this January.

With Sergio Aguero's ongoing knee problem, and the patchy fitness of Gabriel Jesus, this could hamper City.

At the moment, City are doing okay without either of the two main strikers. But that hasn't been the case all season, and might not be moving forward.

If one or both of Aguero and Jesus has a decent second half of the season, City will do okay. If neither do, and City don't sign anyone, then they could fall short.

Will Pep prioritise the Champions League over Premier League?

That certainly looked to be the case last season, but in fairness, who could have lived with Liverpool?

The league was gone for City well before the lockdown occurred, leaving them the opportunity to focus on Europe.

That's not the case this season, and I think Pep will prioritise whatever trophy is in front of him.

Pep also can't really afford to go two seasons without winning one of the Premier League, or Champions League. So I can't see him throwing all his resources at the Champions League, at the expense of domestic trophies.

I have little doubt Man City will be going all out to win all competitions this year.

Their main stumbling blocks will be the fitness of Aguero and Jesus. Get one or both of them fit and firing, and City should be fine.
