Borussia Dortmund sack Lucien Favre after 5-1 humiliation

In the wake of their latest setback, Borussia Dortmund have decided to sack Lucien Favre as their manager.

Dortmund Sack seemed inevitable for Lucien Favre

The sacking comes in the wake of Dortmund's 5-1 home defeat to Stuttgart.

This was the third defeat in five Bundesliga matches for Dortmund. It leaves the Black and Yellow fifth in the league, 5 points behind second placed Bayern Munich, and 6 behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Favre has been in charge at Dortmund since leaving French side Nice in the summer of 2018.

He only recently led Dortmund to into the last 16 of the Champions League.

After the sacking, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said,

"We are all grateful for Lucien Favre and his excellent work over the past two and a half years, where he and his team finished as runner-up twice. Beyond any doubt, Lucien Favre is a great professional and person."

Dortmund also announced that assistant coach Edin Terzic will be interim manager until the end of the season. Joining Terzic’s coaching team is Sebastian Geppert and Otto Addo.

"That was a catastrophe. It was not good. We were just not there. That should not happen."

Prior to getting the sack, Lucien Favre guided Borussia Dortmund to second in the Bundesliga in both of the last 2 seasons.
