England V Republic of Ireland Prediction, Betting Tips, and Preview

It’s back to the dreaded friendlies on Thursday night, and despite not liking them I do have a nice prediction in store for England V Republic of Ireland from Wembley tonight (12/11/20).

England V Republic of Ireland Preview

  • The last six matches between Ireland and England have been draws
  • The last positive result between the 2 sides was Ireland's 1-0 win in Euro 88
  • Under 2.5 goals has been the outcome in the last 8 matches involving Ireland

Despite this only being a friendly, England are still a big draw when it comes to betting and predictions.

This match was originally due to be played against New Zealand, who pulled out due to Covid-19 related issues.

The Republic of Ireland stepped into the breach after they lost their Euro 2020(1) qualifier to Slovakia last month.

With the final scheduled to be played today, the Irish obviously had a spare date in their diary.

England V Republic of Ireland Odds

England 2/5 - The Draw - 17/5 - Republic of Ireland 8/1

Odds of 2/5 on England suggest the bookies and punters don't see much problem for Gareth Southgate's team to win this one.

With this being a friendly though, there could be plenty of experimenting with the side. Southgate will also possibly hold back his big guns for the upcoming Nations League.

With this in mind, I would wait until the team is announced before making any bets tonight.

Could 8/1 on a side that hasn't lost to England in their last 7 matches be appealing? I'm not so sure it is personally, as it isn't recent form.

This Irish side is also extremely different to the teams who have given England a run for their money of recent years. The gulf in class is now huge.

Southgate likely to experiment with fringe players

In a similar way to how he played it in the last round of international fixtures, I expect Gareth Southgate to use some of his fringe players tonight, and save his main XI for the Nations League matches.

This means it's likely Harry Kane might be left to sit this one out. But on the flip side, this is the sort of match that could be ideal for in-form Villa man, Jack Grealish.

I'm sure he'll get given the chance to play against the nation he could so easily have been representing, tonight.

England V Republic of Ireland Prediction 12/11/20

One thing that is a common theme within this Republic of Ireland team is the lack of goals at both ends of the pitch.

In general, I don't like backing unders in goals markets, but there are exceptions.

Prediction - England to win from -1 on the Handicap @ 6/5 with Betfair

That said, I'm sticking with the Handicaps market for this one.

It may have failed me at the weekend, but I'm sure England can win this one tonight with a couple of goals to spare, so I'm taking England to win from -1, at 6/5.
