Chelsea sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen

Another exciting young star has joined the Premier League ahead of he new season, with Chelsea announcing the news that they have completed a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Havertz joins Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva at Chelsea, as Frank Lampard continues his rebuild.

Chelsea sign Kai Havertz on a 5 year deal

Chelsea announced the signing on their website on Friday evening, also stating that Havertz has signed a 5 year contract. The young play maker will be linking up with fellow Germany international Timo Werner at the Bridge.

A price tag of £71 Million is what the BBC are reporting Havertz cost. This takes the club's spending this summer to around the £230 Million mark.

With such a huge amount of money spent by the Blues, boss Frank Lampard will be under pressure to make sure the team start the season well.

With the exception of the Thiago Silva signing, all of these summer signings look like great players for the future. If they don't hit the ground running, how long will Lampard be given to make things click.

Alongside the club's other young attacking options, players like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Callum Hudon-Odoi and Billy Gilmour, Chelsea have the look of being a great side in 2 to 3 years.

The problem facing Lampard is what are the club's short term aims? Is Roman Abramovich expecting to be competing with Liverpool and Manchester City this season? Or is he happy to see an emerging team, competitive within the Top 4?

If it's the former, Lampard will need Timo Werner and co to make a fast start.

What about the Chelsea goalkeeping situation?

Maybe the biggest headache of all for Chelsea and Lampard is the goalkeeping situation. The club don't seem to be able to shift Kepa Arrizabalaga.

No one is going to pay Chelsea the sort of money they forked out to buy the player back in 2018. Meaning the club either have to take a massive hit, or give him another chance.

With all the attacking qualities at the club, there is little doubt scoring goals won't be an issue. It's at the back where Chelsea and Frank Lampard are most likely to come unstuck.

Sorting that situation out would be advisable if Lampard wishes to keep his job in the long term.
