Defeat for Wolves all but ends Champions League hopes

Wolves suffered their second defeat in a week, and this latest setback, has all but ended their Champions League aspirations for next season.

There were a couple of significant results in last night's fixtures, effecting teams at both the top and bottom ends of the table.

Wolves' Champions League hopes diminished at Bramall Lane

At the top end, Sheffield United's 1-0 win over Wolves put paid to the Gold and Black's Champions League aspirations. Wolves are now 7/1 to finish in the Premier League top 4 this season.

With a 7 points gap to 4th place Leicester, and most probably a 6 point gap to 5th place Manchester United by the end of play tonight, the game looks up for Wolves with just 12 points left to play for.

Even so, it has been an outstanding season for both Nuno Espirito Santo and his Wolves side.

At the start of the campaign, I'm sure they had high aspirations, but I seriously doubt they believed they would be in with a chance of a Top 4 finish.

Three fixtures tonight to complete Gameweek 34

Premier League Gameweek 34 comes to an end this evening, with today's matches having an effect on both ends of the table.

There are 3 fixtures in total today. At the top, Manchester United will be looking to keep the pressure on the top 4, and close the gap on Leicester to just 1 point.

United's opponents, Aston Villa are desperate for points as well. But for different reasons.

It's exactly the same for Bournemouth and Tottenham, with both sides desperate for points, for differing reasons.

The final match today sees Everton play Southampton at Goodison Park in a mid table match, with nothing really riding on it. A rarity in the Premier League this season.

Hammers leave the door slightly ajar

At the bottom, Aston Villa and Bournemouth will both be hoping to capitalise on West Ham's inability to take advantage of a favourable fixture list - losing 1-0 at home to Burnley - and put clear daylight between themselves and the bottom 3.

David Moyes team could have moved onto 34 points with a win last night. This would have put West Ham 7 points clear of the bottom 3, and surely safe for another year...... at least.

Yes, Burnley are an awful side to play when you need points. But at the same time, they are not the equivalent of playing Manchester United in current form. A treat awaiting Aston Villa tonight.

The other team down the bottom of the Premier League struggling is Bournemouth. Eddie Howe's deflated team welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Vitality Stadium tonight. It's hard to see Bournemouth getting anything out of this, but Spurs have been hit and miss, so who knows.

This looks like one of those games to avoid, from a football betting perspective, that is. Spurs should win, but can you trust them at the moment? I think not.

Both Villa and Bournemouth still have a chink of light left in their pursuit of Premier League safety. But with a 4 points deficit to safety, and only 4 game each left after tonight, time is running out fast.

Thursday's Premier League Fixtures

  • Everton V Southampton (6pm)
  • Bournemouth V Tottenham (6pm)
  • Aston Villa V Man Utd (8.15pm)

Today's 3 matches are the final fixtures in Gameweek 34. There are no fixtures on Friday, and then Gameweek 35 commences on Saturday.
