Real Madrid just Favourites for 2020 La Liga Title after Barcelona Falter

It's all change in the football betting for La Liga, with Real Madrid just about the new favourites to win the 2020 title after Barcelona's 0-0 away draw with Sevilla on Friday night.

Most bookmakers have both Madrid and Barcelona as joint favourites at 5/6. Betway just favour Los Blancos, they are 5/6 on Madrid, and Even money for Barcelona.

While on the Betfair betting exchange, there is clear daylight between the teams, with Madrid at around 1.9, and Barca at 2.

Madrid are now in control of the 2020 title race

Los Blanco are not just 3 points behind with a game in hand. But crucially, Zidane's team have the better head-to-head, having secured 4 points from 6 in the two El Classico's.

In the first El Classico in Barcelona back in December, the teams played out a 0-0 draw. This was followed in March by a 2-0 win for Los Blancos at the Bernabeu, giving Madrid the crucial head-to-head advantage.

All this means that the league title is now in the hands of Madrid. If Zidane's team win all their remaining 9 fixtures, they will be champions. There would be nothing Barca could do to prevent Madrid being champions.

The importance of the situation - even with 9 matches to go - wasn't lost on the Barcelona players.

Barcelona went for broke

With still just under a quarter of the season to go, Barcelona went for broke looking for the 3 points. In the process, risking leaving the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan with nothing.

Gerard Pique - as we have often seen - played the last 10 minutes or so as a makeshift striker. The central defender totally abandoned his defensive duties.

And then in the final couple of minutes, we had the amazing sight of keeper ter Stegen leaving his goal and coming up for a Barcelona corner.

You could've been forgiven for thinking that Barcelona were 1-0 down in a cup final, going into the final stages.

Even Lionel Messi couldn't prevent Real Madrid taking pole position in betting for the 2020 La Liga title

Overall it was a disappointing and flat performance from the Catalans. Messi did his best to lift them, but for once even he couldn't provide the telling contribution.

In the end it was Sergio Reguilón, ironically on loan from Real Madrid, who had the best chance to settle things in favour of the home side.

The defender fluffed his lines from close range, scuffing a shot straight at ter Stegen. It was certainly the finish of a defender, ensuring the match finished in a 0-0 draw.
