Bundesliga Matchday 31 Preview

It's Matchday 31 in the Bundesliga, and with just 4 rounds of fixtures left to go, there's still plenty to play for at both the top and bottom of Germany's top division.

Bundesliga Tips

This weekend's fixtures kick off on Friday evening, and we're straight into a massive clash between Hoffenheim and Leipzig, in a match that has huge implications for both the Europa, and Champions League, places.

Europa League Fight Entering Final Stages

Hoffenheim currently sit just outside the Europa League qualifying positions (in 7th place), and just one place ahead of Freiburg. This means that 3 points for them against Leipzig today would be a massive boost for their chances of getting into Europe next season.

RB Leipzig will be looking to consolidate their Champions League place on Matchday 31

Standing in Hoffenheim's way tonight are Champions League seeking RB Leipzig. Julian Nagelsmann's side are on the verge of qualifying for next season's Champions League, and know that 3 points here will heap the pressure on Borussia Mönchengladbach (in 4th place) and Bayer Leverkusen (5th).

And if that's not enough to wet your appetite, to further spice things up in the battle for Europa League places, 6th place Wolfsburg entertain 8th place Freiburg, on Saturday afternoon.

Moving into the scuffle for Champions League places, and things certainly aren't getting any easier for Borussia Mönchengladbach.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat away to Freiburg at the Schwarzwald-Stadion last weekend, they now find themselves travelling to Munich to face Champions elect, Bayern.

I don't hold out much hope for the boys from Monchengladbach on Saturday. Since the resumption of the Bundesliga, Bayern have won all five league matches, notching up an impressive 17 goals in the process.

Even without the record breaking Thomas Muller and Robet Lewandowski (both suspended) this weekend, I still can't see Bayern being stopped.

Alongside Bayern, Borussia Dortmund look almost assured of a Champions League place after last weekend's 1-0 win over Hertha Berlin.

Sancho and company visit Fortuna Düsseldorf on Saturday looking for the 3 points that could - depending on results elsewhere - confirm their Champions League place next season.

Leverkusen Can Capitalise On Matchday 31

The final side in the race for Champions League places is Bayer Leverkusen. On paper they look to have an easier task than Monchengladbach do, as they face mid table Schalke.

Since the resumption of the Bundesliga, Schalke have been in woeful form. They lost their first 4 matches back, before managing a point from a 1-1 draw with Union Berlin last Sunday.

This weekend represents a huge opportunity for Leverkusen to take the initiative in the fight for a top 4 finish.

Werder Bremen Relegation
Werder Bremen are running out of chances to save themselves from the drop

Down at the bottom and after a devastating couple if defeats for second Werder Bremen, they have a glimmer of hope left when they visit bottom side Paderborn on Saturday.

Third from bottom Düsseldorf face Dortmund, so this gives Werder yet another possible route back from the brink.

From Paderborn's perspective, a win for them sees them close the gap on Bremen to just 2 points. Although relegation would still be likely - and the latest football betting also suggests that, it would give them a great chance to climb off the bottom and take a bit of positivity into next season.
