Bayern Munich’s unassailable lead leaves fans craving a return for Europe’s other top leagues

The Bundesliga title race looks to be done and dusted after Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund. The 3 points gave them a commanding seven-point lead at the top of the table with just six matches to play.

Of course, given that Bayern have won the title in each of the last seven seasons, and are always the favourites in the betting odds on the Bundesliga - both matches and league winner - it’s no surprise that they have finally put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

Munich's Lead is now too big after recent win over Dortmund

Before their win over Dortmund, the league looked beautifully poised to go right down to the wire. A win for Dortmund would have brought them within one point of the league leaders. While if RB Leipzig had beaten Hertha Berlin, they too would have been in with a shout. This would have resulted in a rare three-horse race for the famous Meisterschale trophy.

But Bayern’s quality and strength in depth shone through in the end. They produced a pragmatic, effective display at Westfalenstadion to stifle Dortmund and prevent the men in yellow from really posing a threat to the Bavarians.

Credit must go to Bayern boss Hans-Dieter Flick, who only took over in November after Niko Kovač was sacked. Flick has steadied the ship and got Bayern back to their brilliant best once again.

But the disintegration of that once-exciting German title race has left a lot of hungry football fans desperate for the return of the other top European leagues for some more competitive action.

We Now Need Europe's Other Top Leagues To Return

La Liga in Spain is returning today (June 11th), with Sevilla hosting Real Betis first up. While the Premier League is set to get back underway the following week, on June 17th.

Having said all that, the title race in England is essentially a done thing. Liverpool are already miles clear at the top of the Premier League, and no would argue that they deserve it.

Spain is a different matter, with just two points separating old rivals Barcelona in first and Real Madrid in second.

Plenty Of Live Football On TV

Up until now, the Bundesliga has been the only option for football fans craving some live action. Butover the next few days that will change as Spain and England follow suit.

Indeed, with more matches live on TV than ever before due to the fact that games are behind closed doors, there’ll be no shortage of football to sink our teeth into.

That said, this initial period where the Bundesliga has been the only live football available has perhaps given a lot of fans a new appreciation of the German league.

Of course, given that Bayern have won the title in each of the last seven seasons and are always the favourites in the odds on the Bundesliga matches and more odds on the winner, it’s no surprise that they have finally put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

There is often no way of knowing which way the German football predictions and tips will go, as matches are so open and the majority of teams play attacking, expansive football.

But the return of more leagues can only be seen as a good thing. It represents a gradual return to some kind of normality. Even if the nature of live football is so vastly different now in light of the coronavirus crisis.

It’s been a strange time to be a sports fan, with a dearth of live action on our TV screens. Most fans are now desperate for their favourite sports and leagues to return.
