Still Plenty To Play For In Bundesliga

The league title may be all but over, but there are still plenty of things to play for when Week 29 of the Bundesliga gets under way on Friday evening.

Munich's 1-0 win over Dortmund on Tuesday looks to have secured their 29th title, with the defending champions now 7 points clear, with just 6 matches remaining.

A look further down the league though, shows there is still plenty more things to play for.

Three From Four For The Champions League

We're not taking much of a punt here in assuming that Bayern Munich already have one Champions League place in the bag. But there is a close contest between 4 teams for the remaining 3 places.

Just 4 points separate second placed Borussia Dortmund from fifth placed Leverkusen, with RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach squeezed in between them.

Leverkusen are in action on Friday night, while other 3 are in action on Sunday and Monday.

Dortmund's defeat to Munich on Tuesday was a crushing blow in respect to their Bundesliga chances, but it also means they now have a big fight on their hands to bag themselves a Champions League spot for next season as well.

Things Are Also Tight At The Bottom Of The Table

Down at the foot of the table things look very bleak for Paderborn. A full 9 points from safety, their race already looks to have been run.

Werder Bremen also look in perilous danger, although their game in hand gives them a glimmer of hope of survival. That said, they are still 6 points from 15th placed Mainz - and safety, and 5 points away from the play off spot, currently occupied by Fortuna Düsseldorf.

If there is to be any salvation for Bremen, this has to be the weekend they make things happen.

They have no easy challenge though, as Bremen visit Schalke at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, on Saturday afternoon (2.30pm).

That is far more favourable than the challenge facing Düsseldorf though, as they travel to the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening to face leaders Bayern. This has to be the weekend, Die Werderaner make their move.
