La Liga Stars To Look Out For When The Season Resumes

La Liga

It was recently revealed that the action in La Liga would be returning in the middle of June, with the derby between Sevilla and Real Betis set to be the first game back.

There is still much to be decided in the top-flight in Spain, with all eyes on whether Barcelona will be able to hold onto their title under the mounting pressure from Real Madrid.

There aren’t many leagues in the world that can boast the amount of talent that La Liga does, with many newcomers to the league set to feast their eyes on some high-quality footballers.

But, aside from the well-known stars such as Lionel Messi, Eden Hazard and Luis Suarez, which other stars will fans be able to enjoy when the action in La Liga resumes?

Martin Odegaard (Real Sociedad)

When Martin Odegaard arrived in Spain, there was huge pressure on him immediately. He was hailed as one of the most exciting young players to have emerged and was signed by Real Madrid in the summer of 2015. He made his debut at a club-record 16-years-old.

But it was decided this year, that he would be loaned out for the third season running. Odegaard’s form this season has shown glimpses of what Madrid fans can expect to see in the future. He has scored four goals and made five assists in 22 La Liga starts.

The Norwegian has won the man of the match award on three occasions and has played a significant role in Sociedad’s excellent campaign, which could still see them end the season in a Champions League position.

Marc Cucurella (Getafe)

There aren’t many more intriguing sides on the La Liga table this season than Getafe. And there will be a lot of eyes on them as the season resumes. Their rise through the ranks has been staggering, and they are also standing on the verge of potentially reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Their domestic form hasn’t suffered from that European run. And throughout this run, one of the key players in their side has been Marc Cucurella.

Marc Cucurella has had an excellent La Liga season with Getafe

The full-back signed for Getafe from Barcelona on loan and has played 26 times this season. He has scored one goal and made four assists. The 21-year-old is as important in the final third as he is at the defensive end, as his crossing allows Getafe’s strikers to have the best possible chance of getting their head on the ball. Defensively, he also contributes a lot, as he made an average of 2.3 tackles per game and 0.7 interceptions.

Marc Roca (Espanyol)

Marc Roca is one of the best up-and-coming holding midfielders in Spain. His performances this season have ensured that he is in pole position to step in for the national side should Sergio Busquets pick up an injury. There have been constant rumours linking Roca with a move away from Espanyol in the summer. It isn’t hard to see why judging by his performances throughout the 2019-20 season.

He has played in 24 of the club’s 27 games this season. Unfortunately for Espanyol fans, a move almost certainly looks inevitable judging by the fact they appear doomed for the drop.

Roca has scored two goals and made one assist this season, but his real strengths lie in his defensive work. He is able to make interceptions and then pass the ball on efficiently to teammates.

He has averaged 2.4 tackles per game in La Liga this season, and one interception per game. Roca will be a player that a lot of Premier League fans will be watching for the remainder of the season, as he could be on the move to England in the summer.
