Dortmund V Munich – Der Klassiker betting, preview and tips

Top flight football returned just over a week ago, but real top flight football resumes this evening when Borussia Dortmund host Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker - the top of the table Bundesliga clash.

As we referred to in last week's Bundesliga blog post, the top two are due to clash in a match up, that should it go the way of the defending champions, will almost certainly render the championship title race already over.

Bayern are already 4 points ahead of closest rivals Dortmund, so a win at Signal Iduna Park, would see them with a 7 points lead, and only 6 matches remaining. It would be very difficult to see Munich blowing that.

Dortmund can't afford to lose Der Klassiker

From Dortmund's perspective, they certainly can't afford to lose this one, and even if they win, they'll still trail Munich by one point. This would see plenty of pressure arriving at the doorstep of Bayern though.

There will still be 18 points to play for after tonight, so from the neutral perspective, a Dortmund win would be great.

The bookmakers don't seem to share my optimism though, and they have Munich as odds on favourites. Betfair make Bayern 17/20 favourites, with Dortmund at 14/5, and the draw is a 16/5 shot.

The bookies are equally as dismissive of the chasing pack's chances of winning the title as well. Bayern are just 1/10 to win their 29th title, with Dortmund at 6/1, and RB Leipzig are 33/1 outsiders.

Both Bayern and Dortmund seem to have picked up from where they left off prior to the lock down. And for their respective teams, both Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski are both still scoring.

Dortmund V Munich Goals Betting

Haaland is currently 6/5 to score anytime, while former Dortmund striker, Lewandowski is just 4/7.

In their 2 matches back since the lock down, Dortmund have scored 6 goals without conceding.

I wouldn't read too much into the 2 clean sheets, as Dortmund have given up a lot of chances. In general, the clean sheets are down to bad finishing.

Munich have been similarly dodgy at the back, conceding 2 poorly defended goals from corners last Saturday. This is why it's hard to see either team keeping a clean sheet in this one.

Both teams to score is just 1/3, with over 2.5 goals at 4/11. Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals both seem a touch too short, so I'm looking at over 3.5 goals at 9/10.

While I'm not sure which way this one will go, one thing I am fairly confident about, is there will be goals. Neither side is great defensively... the match will probably end up 0-0 now!
