Man Utd defy the odds to knock out PSG

They were a huge 18/1 just to get through to the quarter-finals, and a massive 125/1 to win the Champions League outright, but Man Utd defied the odds to beat PSG, and knock the French side out of the Champions League.

Just how Man Utd managed to beat PSG 3-1 with the players they had missing, I don't know. Yes, there was a massive bit of good fortune thanks to the VAR penalty, but even so, it was a remarkable achievement.

Whether it was a penalty or not is another argument. My point about the good fortune is, without VAR, that penalty never gets awarded.

Even without the dramatic late penalty, it had still been a very good effort from Solskjaer's team. While the 2-1 win would have seen United knocked out, it would still have represented a decent result.

Solskjaer To Get The Job Permanently Betting

There has been plenty of speculation about whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will get the manager's job permanently.

He was a strong favourite before the PSG 2nd leg. That's now changed to him becoming a nailed on certainty in the eye's of the betting world, as he is now just 1/12.

To give it to another manager now, Pochettino or Zidane, would cause uproar amongst the fans. It would also heap almost unbearable pressure on the new manager.

Man Utd To Win Champions League Betting

Having been as long as 125/1 before the they beat PSG in the 2nd leg on Wednesday, Man Utd are now as short as 8/1 with some bookmakers to lift the Champions League trophy in Madrid, on 1st June. The best price currently available is 10/1 with William Hill.

With Manchester City going well in the Champions League also, what chance United throw a spanner in the works there? You can almost see it coming, the two Manchester clubs to meet in the final is now 11/1. It would just be typical of United to do it and deprive City of the quadruple.

Plenty More Betting Events On The Way

There is plenty more top class sports coming up over the next few days for placing bets on. Next week sees the start of the Cheltenham Festival, and this weekend sees the 4th round of 6 Nations matches also being played.

The Cheltenham festival is one of the biggest betting events of the year. Alongside the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, the Grand National, Kentucky Derby 2019, Melbourne Gold Cup, etc, the Cheltenham Festival is one of the blue ribbon events in horse racing.

Before the horse racing, we have the 6 Nations Rugby. This weekend's fixtures look like the calm before the storm. England host Italy, and Ireland see France travel to Dublin. Both England and Ireland are expected to win.

Wales have the trickier of the three fixtures this weekend, they are away to Scotland. This is a bit of a banana skin for the Welsh. They have already defeated England in Cardiff, and have Ireland visiting the Principality Stadium next weekend. It would be a disaster for Wales if they were to blow the championship against Scotland.

In 6 Nations betting, despite being in the driving seat at the top of the championship table, Wales are only the second favourites. This is down to the fact that their last 2 matches are Scotland away, and Ireland at home. Warren Gatland's side are currently 7/4 second favourites.

It's England that lead the way in the betting, at 4/6. Eddie Jones' team have fixtures at home to Italy and Scotland left, which are regarded as far more winnable.
