Liverpool’s progress in this season’s Champions League is now in danger after another defeat on the road in Group C, with the Reds out to 16/1 in Champions League betting.
The 2-1 defeat to PSG sees Liverpool slip to 3rd place in the group, putting them at risk of going out at the first stage.
The 2-1 result did see one of our over 2.5 goals selections come in though.
The loss now means the Reds have to beat Napoli at Anfield either 1-0, or by two clear goals, if they are to progress to the Round of 16.
The Italian side know that a win will see them top the group, a remarkable achievement given the difficult opponents they were handed down in the draw.
In Champions League betting, PSG are now the favourites at 1/20 to qualify from the group, with Napoli at 8/13, and Liverpool at 4/5, bringing up the rear.
This was Liverpool’s third successive defeat away from home in the group, and it’s fair to say that they have been less than impressive in all three matches.
Dropping down into the Europa League – which will happen if Liverpool fail to win – probably won’t help their Premier League campaign, as it will involve Thursday night kick offs, something that the big clubs seem to hate.
In fairness, that is probably more down the vanity. Playing in the Europa League is not where the big boys want to be.
Especially in Liverpool’s case, after reaching the final of the Champions League last season. Going out of the competition before Christmas would be a disaster.
More immediately for Klopp, and his team face Everton in the Merseyside Derby this weekend. The one saving grace is that it is at Anfield, so that gives Liverpool a major advantage.
