Its been a crazy few months in the world of Spanish football, with Julen Lopetegui’s double sacking, and Sunday nights win for Real Betis away at Barcelona further underlined just what a bonkers time it has been recently for anyone who follows Spanish football.
Real Betis pulled of the result of the season in Spain so far, by winning 4-3 against the defending Champions. This was no smash and grab. Nor was it a cheap win over a weakened side, far from it, Barca welcomed back Lionel Messi, who even scored 2 goals.
This result has opened the door at the top of La Liga. To further compound Barca’s misery, Real Madrid completed a 4-2 win away at Celta Vigo, meaning they are now only 4 points behind the Catalans after 12 games. Quite something, considering the disastrous season Madrid have so far endured.
Backers of the goals markets could have cleaned up on the two Spanish giants at the weekend. The 7 goals in Barcelona seen over 6.5 goals coming in. And the 4-2 win for Madrid resulted in over 5.5 goals winning. Would have been a good double.
All of this means in the latest La Liga betting that Barca are still the favourites at 2/5 with Betfair. Real Madrid are 7/2, and Atletico are 13/2. There are no matches this weekend, as La Liga – like the rest of Europe’s main leagues – is taking a break for the international fixtures.
