Chelsea’s struggles under Antonio Conte continued today as they could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to relegation threatened West Ham. This now means in next manager to leave his position betting, Conte is the 2/1 favourite with Betvictor.
Chelsea dominated the match and the players certainly put in a shift for Conte, in the end I thought it just came down to their inability to finish West Ham off. The Hammers stayed in the match at 1-0 down, and were rewarded for it when Hernandez fired a 73rd minute equaliser.
Nevertheless, we all know that football is a results business, and this was another bad result for Chelsea, and one that finally finished off their slim chances of a Top 4 Finish.
Common consensus amongst the media is that Conte is finished at Chelsea, what remains to be seen though, is when the trigger will be pulled. Will Chelsea wait until the end of the season? Or might they do it sooner?
One little side note from today’s match was the performance of Joe Hart, who was man of the match. Hart’s world cup prospects were looking dead and buried, but any more performances like this will give Gareth Southgate something to think about ahead of naming his world cup squad. The big loser today was probably Burnley’s Nick Pope.
