After his magnificent performance against Germany on his debut, Ruben Loftus-Cheek may well have played himself into contention to make Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad for Russia next summer. This may well have been the most exciting English debut since Wayne Rooney’s back in 2003.
Against the Germans, Loftus-Cheek looked totally at home. He was stylish, was the man behind most of what England created, was comfortable on the ball, was strong in possession, and showed a decent temperament. All of which earned him Glenn Hoddle’s man of the match nomination.
Loftus-Cheek is currently a best price of 6/4 with Betvictor to make Gareth Southgate’s 23 man squad, having been 3/1 before kick off.
Although Loftus-Cheek is a Chelsea player, he is currently on loan at Crystal Palace, which will probably help his cause, as he will be playing every week.
