The odds on David Moyes being the next manager to leave his position came tumbling down on Sunday afternoon after Manchester United’s Old Trafford humbling at the hands of arch enemies, Liverpool.
Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, said on Monday that Moyes had been 20/1 before the Liverpool match, he was cut to 4/1 after the 3-0 defeat, and then backed in to 7/2 overnight.
The current best price on Moyes being the next manager out of a job is 9/2 with Coral.
There is clearly a rebuilding job required at Old Trafford, but will it be Moyes that gets the chance to do it? Moyes also needs to work out how to best utilise his attacking options, as he is yet to find the formula that best suits Van Persie, Rooney and Mata.
We also keep hearing that Manchester United are interested in signing Luke Shaw, I would have thought that a new right back is a far more pressing concern for David Moyes, an area that clearly needed addressing last summer.
United take on Olympiakos in the Champions League at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Could Moyes survive another repeat of Sunday’s performance or result?
He may well still have the backing of Sir Alex Ferguson, but that can’t save him forever, and Fergie may well yet withdraw his backing…. although that would mean Ferguson having to admit to a mistake.
