A few weeks ago all the talk was of a Manchester City quadruple, now it could well be a case that City have already completed their trophy haul this season.
Yesterday’s defeat to Wigan has obviously seen City’s potential trophy haul fall to 3, but the reality of the situation is that they are well of the pace if they are to add to their Capital One Cup this season.
They are 2-0 down to Barcelona in the Champions League at the half way stage, and they are 9 points behind Chelsea in the Premier League title race, albeit with 3 games in hand.
The Champions League looks gone, it’s hard to see City overturning a 2 goal deficit in the Nou Camp, and they can’t afford any more slip ups in the Premier League.
For all the plaudits Manuel Pellegrini has received for City’s style of football this season, he is now in serious danger of only winning the Capital One Cup. That certainly wouldn’t be classed as a successful season to the hierarchy at City, and would certainly lead to scrutiny over his job.
Previous incidents will be dragged up and used as a stick to beat Pellegrini with. Such as the time he didn’t appear to know the Champions League rules, when he didn’t go for the extra goal in Munich that would have won them the group.
He will be compared to Mourinho, and accused of been tactically out thought by him at the Etihad in the 1-0 reversal earlier this year, all these things will all of a sudden become an issue in the media.
Anybody that still thinks City can overturn the deficit against Barcelona and go on to win the Champions League, and also win the Premier League (to add to their Capital One Cup), can get 150/1 with BetVictor. Alternatively, they can look up their doctors phone number and make themselves an appointment.
A Premier League and Capital One Cup double is 13/8, and a Champions League/Premier League double is 80/1 – both with BetVictor, who have a £25.00 Free Bet for new customers.
