Not a great week in Europe for the two Premier League clubs, with both Manchester City and Arsenal coming up short against two of Europe’s elite clubs.
Both will travel to their respective return legs with 2-0 deficits, and both will have Everest sized mountains to climb if they are too advance any further.
Manchester City are currently a best price of 20/1 with Coral (£50.00 Free Bet) to qualify for the next round, Barcelona are a best price of 1/33, also with Coral.
The Man City quadruple is now a best price of 300/1 with Paddy Power, should be 1000/1 to be honest.
As for Arsenal, and the bookmakers are giving Arsene Wenger’s team a far better chance. Arsenal are a far shorter price to qualify, the best price on the Gunner’s going through to the next round is 7/1 with Betfred.
Arsenal seemed a match for Bayern for the first 10-20 minutes of the match last night, and were well in the contest until the sending off.
Did Wenger have any cause for complaint? I’m not sure, it was a clear penalty to me, but maybe it could be argued that Robben’s touch was going away from goal, and a yellow card may have been enough. It was one of those borderline decisions that could have gone either way I suppose.
Arsenal can take heart from that though, and from last year’s performance there (when they won 2-0), and this seems to be reflected in the odds.
That said, it is still a major hurdle to overcome, and I don’t think I would be backing the Gunner’s at 7/1 to get through to the next round.
