Two stand out matches for me tonight. Barcelona (2/9) taking on AC Milan (14/1), and Borussia Dortmund (7/10) against Arsenal (4/1).
Milan managed to hold out for a 1-1 draw at the San Siro in October, but visits to the Nou Camp are different. They lost there 4-0 in the knock-out stages in March when everyone seemed to be writing the Catalonians off, and the previous season Milan lost 3-1 there (losing both ties on aggregate).
Barcelona are yet to taste defeat this season, winning 13 from 17. While Milan’s form has been somewhat less impressive of late, they have only picked up one point from their last 3 fixtures. Last weekend seen a home defeat to Fiorentina, but they could have already had one eye on tonight’s fixture.
Although Milan did well in the San Siro, I fully expect to see Barcelona finish them off tonight. 2/9 could be a touch short, I may hold on and hope to see 1/2 in running.
The second big match of the night sees Arsenal looking to avenge their home defeat to Dortmund at home a couple of weeks back. Before the defeat at the Emirates, the general feeling was that Arsenal had already all but qualified from the group.
The 2-1 reversal has now placed Arsene Wenger’s team in a fairly precarious position, and they really need to avoid defeat tonight at least. Arsenal aren’t a side too well adversed to playing for draws (the draw is 16/5), so don’t expect to see too much negativity from them tonight. Along with Dortmund’s attacking nature, it could be an entertaining game with plenty of goals (cue 0-0).
Borussia Dortmund have won an impressive 14 from 17 this season, and they have a goal average of 2.7 per match. They put 6 past Stuttgart at the weekend, and although Arsenal recorded a decent home win over Liverpool, Jurgen klopp’s men start odds on favourites for good reasons.
Can’t see an Arsenal win tonight, but in fairness nothing would surprise me here. Might do Over 2.5 goals in running, or Over 3.5 goals pre match.
This is the best time of the season for Champions League fixtures, as there is just so many matches to choose from. Other teams in action tonight are Zenit (6/4), Porto (2/1), Celtic (15/4), Athletico Madrid (1/9), Chelsea (4/11), Schalke (17/2), Napoli (4/11) and Marseille (9/1).
