Weekend Selections – Playing Safe (I hope)

Going to play things safe for my first football bet of the season and start off with a 4 team yankee bet. It would be fair to say I’m not sticking my neck out too much with this one, but the intention is to play safe and hopefully just get a win under my belt.

I’m doing Everton @ 1/2, Chelsea @ 2/9, West Ham @ 3/4 and Rangers @ 1/2. It pays approximately 2/1, so it isn’t retirement potential.

I was tempted to leave Everton out as they haven’t played yet and can be slow starters, but given last weeks result for QPR, I feel that Everton will be too strong. Chelsea should have too much at home for West Brom, who in fairness didn’t look too bad against Manchester United last Sunday, but at the Bridge it is hard to see anything other than a home win.

West Ham have hit their straps quite nicely now after their first day blip at home to Cardiff, and lets be honest about it, they should have won that day as well. I’m generally a bit nervous about going into the championship as it is a hit and miss league which throws up no end of strange results, but West Ham seem to be flying at the moment.

As for Rangers, already at this early stage of the season they simply can’t afford to drop points. So no rocket science type theories employed for that selection.

Other teams I considered for my yankee and I’m considering trading on Betfair are Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Man City. They are all better odds than the teams I have chosen, but as I said earlier, I’m going to try to play it a bit safe this weekend.

I believe Sunderland owe Newcastle after last seasons results, they also look a stronger outfit on paper and had a good result last week, but in the end it is a local derby and they have a habit of ending in low scoring draws. Would consider laying Newcastle if they take the lead.

Middlesbrough have started strongly and are at home to a poor looking Birmingham side, I know for a fact that Birmingham don’t look to clever as a lot of people I know seen them struggle against Coventry last Saturday.

Man City were over priced to beat Swansea last Monday, they were around the 4/9 – 1/2 mark for a game that I thought should have been more like 1/4. I think they will beat Bolton on Sunday and may well have a look at backing them in running.

I also like the look of both teams to score in the Norwich V Stoke City match, so may do an Over 2.5 goals bet in running.

Whatever your selections are this weekend, good luck and lets hope for a successful weekend.
