Barcelona beaten at their own game

Great match at Emirates Stadium tonight, I thought for once that this was a game that lived up to all it’s pre match hype.

Arsenal did well for me, going against all the (so called) expert advice we have heard all week they took Barcelona on at their own game and beat them. I know they rode their luck at times, but against Barcelona you are going to have too.

The stats back this up showing Arsenal had more attempts (10-8) on goal, although Barca had 61% of the possession. But you would expect Barca to have the majority of the possession.

I’ve never been a massive fan of Valdes in the Barcelona goal and without doubt he was at fault for Arsenal’s equaliser, but for the winner he had no chance. Like Arron Lennon for Spurs last night, Sami Nasri showed a cool head and great composure to set up Andrey Arshavin for the winner. He didn’t panic and picked the perfect pass.

Arsenal still have a mountain to climb in the 2nd leg, but at least they are well and truely still in the tie. I can see them scoring at the Nou Camp, but I feel they will need more than one.

Barcelona are still favourites to qualify for the next round, Betfair have them at 1.46, while they have Arsenal are 3.10.
