Spain the new favourites to win world cup

The South American big guns have departed, and Spain are now the new betting favourites to lift the 2010 World Cup.

Yes, thankfully, gone are the ill fitting suits of Maradona and the awfully dressed Dunga. Presumably to face the fashion police on their respective returns home.

In the absence of Brazil and Argentina, Spain now head the football betting again to lift the 2010 world cup.

The Spanish started the tournament as favourites, but after some encouraging performances by the two South American giants, and a defeat to unfancied Switzerland for the Spanish, they lost the favourites tag.

I must admit I didn't see the Holland and Germany results coming. I thought Brazil would win a tight affair 1-0 against the Dutch, with Holland putting in a decent performance, but ultimately going home as galent losers.

And as for the Germans, well, who seen a 4-0 thrashing coming? I certainly didn't, the result almost makes England's 4-1 defeat look not so bad! Ok, maybe not.

In football betting terms, it appears the bookies see the winner of Germany V Spain as the eventual world cup winner.

They only just favour Spain at the moment, but the winner will almost certainly be odds on for the final. The fact that the Dutch are third favourites behind Spain and the Germans all but confirms that.

Uruguay carry the hopes of South America now. According to the bookies they can forget it though with prices of 10, 11, and 12/1 available on them. They are as long as 6/1 just to beat Holland on Tuesday.
