England favourites to beat the Germans

Ahead of today’s clash in the last 16 of the world cup the bookies have England (rightly in my opinion) as favourites to progress to the last 8 at the expense of old rivals Germany.

England are a best price of 7/4 with Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, VC Bet and Skybet to win in 90 minutes. The Germans are 2/1 with Betfred, while the draw is 11/5 with Stan James, Totesport and Bet365.

To qualify for the quarter-finals England are 9/10 woth Paddy Power, while Germany are Evens with Ladbrokes, Coral, VC Bet and William Hill.

To win on the dreaded penalty shootout (for England anyway), the bookmakers don’t seem to be able to split the two teams. Have they not read the history books? Or do they know something I don’t? Paddy Power have both sides at 17/2, Sportingbet 9/1, Totesport 9/1 and Skybet 10/1.

Only VC Bet and Boylesports make Germany favourites in this market. VC Bet make Germany 8/1 and Eng 9/1. And the gap is larger at Boylesports, with Germany at 15/2 favourites and England at 9/1.

Paddy Power are doing there usual high profile cashback offer by refunding all losing 1st/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on this match if it ends 0-0, up to a maximum bet of £/€100.

In the outright world cup winner betting, England are 11/1, while the Germans are 14/1.

Other bets that caught my eye are Stan James quoting 2/1 that Germany manager Joachim Loew wears a scarf, and also a massive 50/1 that Capello does a Steve McLaren, and uses an umbrella during the match.
