Any bookmakers worth their salt will offer a Patent Bet. These can be a great bet to use on a Premier League weekend. A selection of bookmakers strong on football betting who will accept Patent Bets are as follows.......

In football betting explained, a Patent Bet is a bet that is made up of 3 selections from different events/football matches.

Your 3 selections are then broke down into 7 individual bets. They are 3 singles, 3 doubles, and 1 treble.

For arguments sake, let's say your 3 selections are for Arsenal to win, Leicester City to win, and Celtic to win (in their respective league matches at the weekend). Your Patent would then be broke down into 7 bets, like this....

Patent Bet Examples

1 - Single - Arsenal to win
2 - Single - Leicester City to win
3 - Single - Celtic to win

4 - Double - Arsenal and Celtic to both win
5 - Double - Arsenal and Leicester City to both win
6 - Double - Leicester City and Celtic to both win

7 - Treble - Arsenal, Leicester City and Celtic to all win

If all 3 selections win, then all 7 bets will win.

Whereas (for example), if Arsenal don't win, then 4 of your bets lose (Bets 1,4,5 and 7), and if Leicester City and Celtic do win, then 3 of your bets will win (Bets 2,3 and 6). Obviously, the more selections that win, the more money you win.

What placing your Patent Bet, you will be asked for a stake (amount of money you wish to place). This will be x7 though, so be careful. So for example, if you wish the total bet to be for £7.00, you need to place £1.00 in your stake amount.

Remember, there can't be a conflict of interests in your selections. You can't pick Arsenal to win, and then choose there to be Over 2.5 Goals in the Arsenal match, as that would be a conflict of interests. Bookmakers don't allow you to make selections that influence the outcome of the same football match.

That's why, in the example I used, I have picked different teams/selections.

Don't get a Patent Bet, mixed up with a Trixie Bet.

Both these bets are similar, where they both require 3 selections. There is a big difference though. A Trixie Bet is made up of 4 bets, while the Patent Bet is made up of 7 bets. The break down is like this....

Trixie Bet – 4 Bets

1 - Double – Manchester United and Bayern Munich to both win
2 - Double – Manchester United and Barcelona to both win
3 - Double – Bayern Munich and Barcelona to both win

4 - Treble – Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to all win

Patent Bet – 7 Bets

1 - Single – Manchester United to win
2 - Single – Bayern Munich to win
3 - Single – Barcelona to win

4 - Double – Manchester United and Bayern Munich to both win
5 - Double – Manchester United and Barcelona to both win
6 - Double – Bayern Munich and Barcelona to both win

7 -Treble – Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to all win
